Newark, Del. — All four teams who in the Delaware Hockey Night coverage area who were in action on Friday night (Nov. 16) earned standings points in their respective contests. Recaps of their games follow.
Salesianum 5, Cardinal O’Hara 5 (OT)
An Ethan Scharp hat trick gave Salesianum (1-1-1) a 5-2 lead early in the third period, but Cardinal O’Hara came back with three unanswered goals to force a 5-5 draw at the Havertown (Pa.) Skatium.
Junior winger Scharp, whose goals came short-handed, even-strength, and on the power play alike, connected 1:04 in the third period off assists from Dylan Johnson and Cam Bergeman to lift Salesianum to a 5-2 advantage, but the momentum shifted as the Cardinal O’Hara side kept Salesianum to just four shots in the third period while peppering Graham Burke with 13. J.P. Ahearn brought the Lions to within two with his second goal of the game at the 4:48 mark, and Jacob Pohlig and Zac Deemer — also with two for the game — teamed up in the last 96 seconds for the pair of O’Hara tallies which tied the contest.
Burke stopped 43 of 48 shots, while Lions goalie Troy Percival made 20 saves on 25 shots faced.
St. Mark’s 4, Kennett 3 (OT)
Will Ralsten sealed a 4-3 overtime win for the St. Mark’s Spartans (3-1-0), beating Kennett (1-2-2) goalie Tyler Richman off a Joey Centrone assist for the game-winning tally 3:05 into the extra period of a back-and-forth contest at the Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Del.
Jacob DellaVecchia put Kennett on the board with 5:05 to go in the first period, connecting off a Matt Giovannini assist, but the Demons — only 11 skaters strong — gave up three unanswered goals, two of them while ceding a man advantage. After Graham Kline lifted the Spartans to a 3-1 lead in the first minute of the third period, Blue Demons leading scorer Thomas Halsted responded with a pair of goals — his fourth and fifth of the season — to tie the game with 8:14 to go in regulation and force the three-on-three overtime capped by Ralsten’s game winner.
Lance Ralsten and Kelly Stroik contributed goals for St. Mark’s, while Will Ralsten also offered two assists.
Billy Pierce earned the win in net for the Spartans with 20 saves on 23 shots, while Richman, tested by 34 shots, recorded 30 saves.
