Kinsler’s Grand Slam Leads Sals Over Ryan

BRISTOL, Pa. — Four goals from sophomore winger Christian Kinsler — including two in an eight-second span — propelled Salesianum (2-0-0) to a facile 10-0 rout of Archbishop Ryan (1-2-0) in Inter-County Scholastic Hockey League competition on Monday (Feb. 22) at Grundy Ice Arena.

After goals from defencemen Jake Ehrlich and Gianni Pacitti in the first 5:14, Kinsler unleashed a 30-foot laser to beat Raiders goalie Logan Roberts at 6:36. Kinsler added two more in the 15th minute of the first period — the first off a fast break from a defensive zone face-off, and the second immediately after junior Logan Downs won the ensuing centre ice draw.

Roberts was replaced in the Ryan net by freshman Dillon Gallagher after allowing five goals in 14:14, but the Salesianum onslaught continued in earnest. Downs contributed two goals of his own in the second period, and Kinsler added a fourth — a slap shot from the right dot — 4:42 into the third. Defencemen Caelan Driggs and Logan Maradie iced the Sals’ 10-0 rout — the former with a net-front redirect of a Johnny Lee setup, and the latter with a top-shelf wrist shot from above the left dot.

Salesianum’s special teams thrived, with the power play united accounting for two goals on five chances, and one of Downs’ goals occurring while shorthanded. Sophomore Mike Manzi improved to 2-0-0 with an eight-save shutout.

Salesianum tackles Cardinal O’Hara on Friday (Feb. 26); coverage on Delaware Hockey Night will begin at 6:25 p.m. Eastern.
