Salesianum Blanks St. Augustine

Philadelphia, Pa. — A potent power play, propelled by a hat trick from sophomore centre Cam Bergeman, gave the Salesianum varsity hockey team (1-1-0 ICSHL) a 4-0 win over St. Augustine Prep (Richland, N.J.) on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 13) at the Wells Fargo Center.

Not only did all three of Bergeman’s goals come during Salesianum power plays, but the two-time defending Flyers Cup champions converted on all of their man-advantage opportunities. At 9:31 in the first period, Bergeman turned a cross-ice pass from Ethan Scharp into a top-shelf laser from the left dot to give Salesianum a lead they would not relinquish.

After failing to pad the lead in a back-and-forth yet scoreless second period which saw St. Augustine offer ample forecheking pressure and a similarly strong defensive-zone presence, Ethan Scharp doubled Salesianum’s lead 1:08 into the third period with an unassisted net-front goal — the only even-strength tally of the contest — before two further power-play goals potted by Bergeman put Salesianum out of the Hermits’ reach.

Senior goalie Graham Burke stopped all 38 shots he faced in victory. Scharp assisted on two of Bergeman’s goals while Patrick Kelly, Dylan Johnson and Logan Downs added one assist each.
