ACHA Women: Schell, Hens Edge Rowan, 3-2

(Carl McCombs)

Newark, Del. — Anna Schell gave the University of Delaware women’s hockey team (10-3-0) the game-winning goal with just under 12 minutes remaining in regulation, as the Blue Hens eked past Rowan, 3-2, on Friday night (Nov. 16) at Gold Arena.

Schell put the game-winner back off a Mary Claire Newtown rebound to beat Profs goalie Emily Render, who more than held her own in net with 31 saves. Schell’s fifth goal of the season followed earlier Delaware goals from Jess Rainey and Natalie Bogia.

Kendall Smythe backstopped the Hens to victory with 15 saves on 17 shots faced.

The Blue Hens remain a perfect 7-0-0 at home in ACHA play so far this season. Following the Thanksgiving break, they travel to Navy for a two-game series before hosting Wilkes University’s NCAA Division 3 team on Dec. 8.
