Newark, Del. — All five scholastic teams in the Delaware Hockey Night coverage area were in action, with all four Delaware-based teams taking part in the 11th annual Hockey for a Cause at Fred Rust Arena.
Delaware Military Academy 11, Appoquinimink 3
With Appoqunimink’s (3-4-0) entire first line and top goalie Dylan Hadley out of action, the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks (6-1-0) took advantage of a prime opportunity to pounce on their in-state rivals, recording an 11-3 victory in the first half of the Hockey for a Cause doubleheader at Fred Rust Arena.
Defenceman Braedon Dougherty demonstrated long-range sniping ability and led the Seahawks with a hat trick, while Justin McGee and Max Ruggerio each accounted for a pair of goals. With 70 seconds remaining, junior Thomas Marzulli tipped a net-front feed from McGee past Jaguars goalie Vincent Paloni to earn his first scholastic goal.
Salesianum 4, St. Mark’s 1
The second half of the Hockey for a Cause twinbill saw Lance Ralsten launch a laser from 35 feet out through traffic to give his St. Mark’s Spartans (4-3-0) a first-period lead, but a youthful Salesianum side (3-5-1) battled back before edging away to a 4-1 victory.
In the unfamiliar position of trailing the Spartans through one period, junior defenceman Nick Falkowski evened the score 2:29 into the second period with a top-shelf clapper from the top of the St. Mark’s zone. Johnny Lee put back the rebound of a Chase Golden shot through the five-hole at 6:26 to give Salesianum the lead before freshman Logan Downs accounted for a pair of further Salesianum goals in the final 6-1/2 minutes of the game.
Graham Burke saved 24 of 25 shots faced in victory, while Spartans’ netminder Billy Pierce recorded 15 saves on 19 shots.
Interboro 3, Kennett 0
With captain and leading scorer Dylan Sangmeister back in the lineup, the Interboro Buccaneers (5-4-0) scrapped their way to a 3-0 win over Kennett (6-3-2) at the Patriot Ice Center and earned a split for the season series.
After setting up Konnor Oreskovich in the first period, Sangmeister potted both third-period tallies for Interboro, firing a power-play goal past Kennett goalie Tyler Richman 44 seconds into the third and recording a net-front put-back of a Nick Falcone chance with 4:36 to go.
Kennett maintains first place over Interboro in the ICSHL Liberty South division standings, but third-place St. Mark’s has been undefeated in three division games to date this season.
