After dropping their two previous games to in-state rivals Salesianum and St. Mark’s, the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks (8-2-0) found their stride again in a 6-1 victory over the Msgr. Bonner Friars on Monday evening (Jan. 29) at the Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Del.
The Seahawks unleashed 49 shots on Bonner goalie Connor Lewis, with each member of DMA’s first line accounting for two goals apiece. Lukas Cook opened the scoring for DMA with a tap-in from the left side of the crease 54 seconds in, while Alex Maglio accounted for the next two Seahawks goals in the middle stages of the first period. At 7:44, Maglio backhanded the puck from the left side of the crease across into the right corner before his low-slot wrist shot beat Lewis over his glove at 9:28.
Down 3-0 late in the first period, the Friars connected for their only goal of the game. Leading goal scorer Jakob Moleski beat DMA goalie Julia Emerich over her glove at 11:39 with a wrist shot from inside the left dot via a Pat Jensen assist. Despite giving up the Moleski goal, DMA controlled the tempo and territory the rest of the game. Markus Cook, after assisting two goals in the first period, accounted for his 23rd and 24th of the season in the second. At 7:22, the senior centre fired a hard shot from inside the right dot past Lewis waist-high, while at 13:40 he redirected an Alex Maglio pass from the right half wall past Lewis from the left edge of the crease.
With a comfortable 5-1 lead heading into the third, DMA took the foot off the accelerator a bit, only registering 10 shots after firing 39 on Lewis through the first two periods. Lukas Cook earned his second at 11:58, redirecting a pass from Maglio below the goal into the net.
Both teams were 0-2 on the power play. Emerich made 22 saves in the DMA victory, while Lewis denied 43 of 49 shots faced in defeat for Bonner.
