About

The Delaware Hockey Network is your online home for all things hockey in the First State, complete with comprehensive broadcast coverage of collegiate, scholastic and youth hockey.

What began in 2017 as an Internet radio product called Delaware Hockey Night, the Delaware Hockey Network (still DHN!) has brought high-quality audio and video streaming broadcasts of University of Delaware and Salesianum School hockey to thousands of viewers and listeners worldwide since its inception.

Our Mission

Our mission is to help grow the game of hockey at all levels in Delaware through unparalleled coverage of hockey at the collegiate, scholastic and youth levels. From our live broadcast coverage to game recaps and feature stories on our News page, we aim to increase awareness and share the stories of the game and its participants to a broader audience.

James Witherite
Founder/Producer/Commentator

Pennsylvania native James Witherite established DHN in 2017 after wrapping up an 11-year run broadcasting over 17,000 Standardbred and Thoroughbred horse races in Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York. Witherite, a Delaware transplant by way of Pittsburgh’s Duquesne University (BMus ’07), began his announcing career in grade 7, when he assumed the role of public address announcer for his high school basketball and baseball teams. He has filled the same capacity for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL), as well as serving as their de facto Canadian anthem singer.

When not on air or working as a USA Hockey on-ice official, Witherite enjoys a second life as an active composer and musician, appearing as a jazz organist, providing music for religious services, and (on occasion) serving as the bugler for marquee horse racing events, including Governor’s Night at the Delaware State Fair for the last three seasons, the 2016 and 2017 renewals of the Adios, and the 2017 Illinois Derby. He makes his home in Smyrna, Del., with his wife, Lauren, and their daughters, Sara and Ashley.
