DHN Radio Weekend Preview

The Winter 2018 season of Delaware Hockey Night radio kicks off with a pair of games this weekend, featuring the University of Delaware Division 2 men’s hockey team’s 2018 opener against Stevenson on Saturday (Jan. 6) and a powerhouse scholastic matchup between Salesianum and the Delaware Military Academy on Monday (Jan. 8).

The University of Delaware Division 2 Blue Hens (13-9-0) return from their winter break on Saturday, when they host Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Conference rival Stevenson (1-5-1) at the University of Delaware Gold Arena in Newark, Del.  The Hens, ranked seventh in the American Collegiate Hockey Association’s (ACHA) Southeast Region, closed out 2017 with a gritty 2-1 win over Rowan on Dec. 9 and defeated Stevenson 8-5 in their first ever meeting on Nov. 11.  After giving up two early goals, the Hens used a 5-3 second period to gain control before outpacing the Mustangs late.  Stephen Bryson led Delaware with a hat trick, Ryan Morse accounted for a pair of goals, and the Hens peppered Stevenson goalie William Langstaff with 57 shots.

The weekend’s radio schedule ends with the first meeting of the Salesianum Sallies (2-6-0) and the Delaware Military Academy Seahawks (5-0-0) this season scheduled for Monday at The Pond Ice Arena.  Salesianum, who jumped to the Prep Division for the 2017-18 season, were in action over the Christmas break at the Steve Malley High School Showcase, at which they split four games to take third honours in the five-team field.  DMA remain undefeated after a hard-fought 5-4 win over Owen J.
