Haverford, Pa. — A sustained attack highlighted by four goals from right winger Nathan Panchisin carried the Appoquinimink Jaguars (10-0-2) to a confident 11-1 defeat of Harriton (2-7-0) on Thursday evening (Jan. 9) at the Skatium.
Panchisin scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game before completing a natural hat trick in the final 15 seconds of the first period with a 20-foot wrist shot from the slot. After keeping Harriton to only a couple questionable shots in the first period (and none on goal), the Jaguars maintained their attack into the second period. Panchisin set up Paul Army’s rocket from the top of the right circle at 2:19 before completing his four-bagger — and Rams goalie Andrew Hood’s evening — with an easy net-front backhand at 3:22.
Relief netminder Ben Zangerle did not fare much better, giving up three goals in the remainder of the second period before Aiden Kurych lifted Appoquinimink to a 10-goal margin and cut the game short 3:51 into the third period.
In addition to Panchisin’s four goals, Army, Kurych and Anthony Poehlmann each recorded two, while leading scorer Jonny Schwarz’s lone goal was his 17th of the year. Sam Chairman scored the only Harriton goal, beating Dylan Hadley with a strong wrist shot from the left point at 9:40 in the second period.
Appoquimink, who holds a 4-point lead over Bishop Shanahan and St. Mark’s in the 10-team ICSHL Liberty Division, faces Bux-Mont Catholic in a home-and-home series: at Hatfield Ice in Colmar, Pa., on Friday (Jan. 10), and at the Patriot Ice Center in Newark, Del., on Monday (Jan. 13).
