UD Well Represented In ACHA Rankings

All four University of Delaware hockey teams will head to the annual American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) winter break with strong standings in their respective regional rankings, released on Wednesday (Dec. 13).

The women’s Division 2 team rose to the top of the East Region after compiling an impressive 16-1-0 record through the first half of their season and outscoring all opponents by an astounding 104-16 margin. The Hens passed Buffalo, who dropped to third in the region after leading the November rankings.

Goalie Emily Becker sports a jaw-dropping 0.45 goals against average through the 2017 portion of the season, while four Hens—Carlie Smythe, Emily Hockey, Mary Claire Newtown, and Amanda Gallagher—have amassed double-digit goal totals to this point.

The men’s Division 2 team, ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region, completed a 13-9-0 fall schedule with a gritty 2-1 win over Rowan (No. 6) on Saturday, Dec. 9. Of the Hens’ nine defeats, two were to top-ranked Penn State on the road, and another three were by a single goal, including to Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Conference rivals Liberty (No. 3) and Army (No. 11).

The men’s Division 1 team carry a 13-11-0 record to the break, good for the No. 25 spot in the national rankings, while the men’s Division 3 team, cooling down to a 11-6-2 record after a strong start to their season, maintain the No. 10 position in the Atlantic Region.
