Johnstown, Pa. — The University of Delaware Division 3 men’s hockey team enjoyed a strong showing at 1st Summit Arena at the Cambria County War Memorial over the weekend of Jan. 24-26, earning five of a possible six points against three teams from College Hockey East in the 2020 Johnstown Showcase.

Friday, Jan. 24 — Delaware 8, IUP 0

Six Blue Hen skaters found the back of the net in an 8-0 rout of the Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks. Steven Palomba and Jack Mastronardi led the Hens’ charge with two goals apiece, while Thomas Allen, Anthony Corella, Ryan D’Emilia and Joe Weindling each added one. Ryan Bryson, Carson Moore, Luke Rich and Matt Vermont logged two assists apiece, and Gabe Nadell recorded a 43-save shutout.

Saturday, Jan. 25 — Delaware 1, CalU 1

After suffering a 5-4 loss to California (Pa.) last February at Gold Arena, the Hens battled to a 1-1 tie with the Vulcans on neutral ice. Austin Wetzel put Delaware on the board with 11 seconds left in the first period, beating Turner Jacobs on a Palomba assist. The Vulcans tied the game 2:06 in the second on a Tony Manuel goal. James Palmeri recorded 38 saves for Delaware, while Jacobs stopped 31 of 32 shots faced for CalU.

Sunday, Jan. 26 — Delaware 5, Pitt-Johnstown 1

Following a 10-4 drubbing of Pitt-Johnstown on Jan. 17, the Hens completed a series sweep of the Ice Cats with a commanding 5-1 win at the War Memorial. Bryson, Ben Kahan and Allen scored one apiece to give Delaware a 3-0 advantage at the first intermission, and further goals from D’Emilia and Brandon LaSpina extended Delaware’s lead to 5-0 through the second. Delaware goalie Danny Miller’s shutout hopes were foiled at 7:00 in the third, when Ryan Phelps scored the Ice Cats’ lone goal.

The Blue Hens commence a four-game homestand on Friday (Jan. 31), hosting Fordham at Gold Arena. The game will stream as bonus coverage on Delaware Hockey Night Radio after the conclusion of the Division 1 Blue Hens’ matchup against Stony Brook.
