Newark, Del. — A hat trick from leading scorer Emily Hockey propelled the University of Delaware women’s hockey team (4-1-0 ACHA) to a commanding 9-0 win over West Chester in their first of four seasonal meetings, held on Friday night (Oct. 12) before a modest home crowd at Gold Arena.

The Blue Hens made their presence felt in all three zones, limiting the Golden Rams to just seven shots all game while recording 37 of their own. In addition to Hockey’s hat trick, lifting her seasonal goal total to six, Jessica Rainey and Shannon McDermott accounted for a pair each. Carlie Smythe became the first player in the history of the Delaware women’s team to eclipse the 100-point mark, recording four assists.

Freshman goalie Morgan Cullen earned her third shutout in as many collegiate games with a seven-save effort.

Delaware hosts West Chester again on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 14); game time is listed at 3:15 p.m. at Fred Rust Arena.
