Hens Find Their Groove, Outpace Salisbury

Newark, Del. — A four-goal second period and effective defensive presence carried the University of Delaware Division 3 men’s hockey team over Salisbury on Friday (Oct. 26) at Gold Arena.

After exchanging goals with the Gulls in the first period, the Blue Hens strung four together in the second, with Shane Saladis earning his second of the game at 7:48 to give the Hens the lead and spark a period-long offensive rally. Freshman Carson Moore also accounted for a pair of goals while Chris Mayville lended strong support with three assists.

Justin Sierocinski delivered in net for the Hens, saving 23 of 27 shots faced in the rare starting appearance.

George Mason Completes Sweep Of Delaware

Woodbridge, Va. — A hat trick from Matthew Rosenberger propelled George Mason to a 7-3 win over the Blue Hens on Saturday (Oct. 27) at the Prince William Ice Arena, giving the Patriots a sweep of the season series after a 6-5 decision on Oct. 12.

Rosenberger accounted for both first-period goals for George Mason, putting his Patriots up 2-1 with 45 seconds left after Delaware defenceman Matt Vermont tied the game with 1:06 to go in the period. Rosenberger’s second goal sparked a 5-0 run from the Patriots, including three second-period goals and two power-play tallies. Trevor Mack, who assisted both Rosenberger goals in the opening frame along with a Shawn Ryan power-play goal 1:05 into the second, converted with the man advantage 4:35 into the third period and increasing the Mason lead to 6-1.

Sustained penalty trouble from Mason in the middle of the third period enabled Delaware’s Jack Mastronardi to get one goal back with a man advantage midway through the period, but any chances of another late rally were thwarted by Rosenberger’s third goal, which came with Delaware forward Ryan Bryson out for boarding, with 4:17 to go.

The Patriots were 3-for-9 with a man advantage while goalie Matthew Benjamin recorded 38 saves in victory. Gabe Nadell recorded 21 saves in defeat.
