Laurel, Md. — A five-goal flurry in the third period propelled the University of Delaware Division 2 men’s hockey team (8-2-0) to a 6-1 victory over Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey rival Maryland on Friday night (Oct. 25) at The Gardens Ice House.
After Delaware right winger Shane Moran and Maryland centre Chris Bouchard exchanged first-period goals, neither team proved able to break the deadlock in the second. The Terrapins penalty kill not only silenced the Hens during a hooking minor assessed to Andrew Amick, but also through a five-minute elbowing major assessed to David Ely at the midpoint of the period.
Despite their mid-game power play woes, the Blue Hens surged in the third period, with Cal Raymore, Dylan Green and Kyle Sapia reeling off three goals in the first 3:23 of the third period. Ryan Johnson and Ryan Lowe added two more in the final minute to seal victory.
Devin LeBlanc and Ben Bergman each accounted for two assists, while Stephen Odgers improved to 7-2-0 on the season with another successful outing in net.
The Blue Hens continue their six-game road swing with three contests next weekend, taking on UMass on Friday (Nov. 1), RPI on Saturday (Nov. 2), and Providence on Sunday (Nov. 3).
