ACHA D2: Delaware Outpaces Army, 4-1

Newburgh, N.Y. — The University of Delaware Division 2 men’s hockey team kicked off their first road swing of the season with a 4-1 victory over Army on Saturday night (Sept. 14) at the Ice Time Sports Complex.

After leading the Blue Hens with two goals in last week’s 7-1 win over Millersville, Ryan Johnson put the Hens on the board 4:31 into the first period with his third of the season, followed up by linemate Shane Moran at the 10:59 mark. Delaware extended their lead to 3-0 at the 12:09 mark of the second period, when defenceman Adrian Rodriguez connected for a power-play goal from the point.

The lone Army goal of the contest came 2:29 into the third period when Alan Salazar connected from a Jeston Rademaker assist, only to be answered by an Andrew Marciniak tally for the Hens with :26 remaining.

Goalie Stephen Odgers improved to 2-0-0 for Delaware; shot statistics were not maintained. Jack Kraus took the loss in net for the Black Knights. The Blue Hens were 2-for-5 on the power play and killed off all six shorthanded situations they were assessed.

The win was Delaware’s second straight over Army following a 4-3 decision last September.

Delaware returns to action on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15) at The College of New Jersey. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.; video coverage will be provided by Lions Hockey Live.
