Annapolis, Md. — Eight Blue Hen skaters found the back of the net in the University of Delaware Division 1 men’s hockey team’s (2-3-0) 8-3 rout of Navy (8-2-1) on Friday night (Oct. 19) at McMullen Ice Center.

After both sides traded goals in the first period, Delaware found their groove early in the second, with Kevin Felice, Ethan Docking and Colin Emerich all contributing goals in the first eight minutes of the middle period. A Jeffrey Wu goal at 10:14 cut the Blue Hens’ lead to 4-2 before Brian Ostrander answered for Delaware with two seconds to go in the frame.

In the eighth minute of the third, Luke Turk notched his second goal of the game and brought the Midshipmen to within a pair again, but Delaware once again responded with a string of unanswered tallies. Leading scorer Chris Mazzella, Tommy Cascone and Ryan Burns contributed to the Hens’ final wave of productivity, with the last goal coming with just 29 seconds remaining.

Chris Ponticello saved 40 of 43 shots faced in victory for Delaware, while Thatcher Givens recorded 31 saves on 39 shots faced in defeat.

The Midshipmen and Blue Hens complete their home-and-home series Saturday (Oct. 20) at Fred Rust Arena. Opening face-off is scheduled for 5:25 p.m.
